Catchpole & Rye’s International Projects

Share:

We’ve always considered ourselves a local business – we design and manufacture from our base in Ashford, Kent – but the high reputation of English design and manufacturing gives our bathrooms an international appeal. As well as finding Catchpole & Rye baths and showers in homes across London and the UK, you’ll also find them across the globe, from the Americas to Africa and the Middle East and as far away as Australia.

Our international projects offer an array of inspirational ideas for holiday homes, luxury hotels and tropical getaways – here are just a few of our latest designs for global clientele.

Palm Beach, Australia

For this seven-bedroom luxury beach property in Sydney, Australia, water was the dominant element, both inside and out. With such spectacular views over the sea, the designer of this holiday home kept the interior simple and light, making the most of the abundant sunshine.

Catchpole & Rye was used for many of the bathrooms and en suites. There is a luxurious feel throughout, with tactile materials and large, airy spaces. This destination shows the impressive effect that can be achieved by choosing classic designs and keeping it simple.

The highlight of the project was the white-painted Niederbronn bath in one of the bedrooms, installed in the perfect position to watch the sailboats and sunsets while remaining in total privacy.

After taking a dive off the house’s private jetty into the pool or straight into the ocean, a number of Le Thermo showers provide the perfect place to rinse off.

Kenya

Arijiju is a luxury spa retreat in the Kenyan Highlands. Nestled within a 90,000 acre conservation area, the hotel was designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, and this carried through to the authentic interior design, which was made with local stone and timber.
Our baths, basins and showers were among the few international additions. The gleaming Copper Bateau baths selected for each bedroom suite contribute to the sumptuous atmosphere, and are the perfect place to unwind after a day on safari.

The bathrooms are described by the hotel as being ‘immense, and designed to encourage long cleansing rituals’. Spacious baths and showers overlook the untouched valley, and an outdoor shower offers a view over Mount Kenya, an unforgettable experience allowing visitors to lose themselves in their surroundings.

What makes each of these rooms so appealing is the meeting of indoor and outdoor space. While it might not be possible to replicate the acres of rainforest scenery at home, one way to achieve this is with the installation of a skylight in your bathroom, allowing you to bathe under the stars. Another is to be adventurous with the positioning of your bath, to make the most of views from windows or patio doors.

Another style tip to take from luxury hotels like Arijiju is to treat your bathroom as an extension of the bedroom. Here, the addition of local, flat-woven rugs are an elegant alternative to traditional bath mats.

South Africa

Another far-flung destination we had the privilege of working in was this private home in South Africa, where several Catchpole & Rye designs were installed in the spacious bathrooms. There’s also a La Cage shower outside, to provide some relief from the seasonal heat.

A predominantly white interior scheme creates a light, summery atmosphere, complemented by the choice of a polished nickel finish for all of the indoor pipework. This includes the statuesque La Cage D’Amour, a stunning double shower that sits neatly within the arched alcove of the master bathroom.

If you’re outside the UK and have dreamed of your own Catchpole & Rye bathroom, contact us. This is only a small selection of our international experience and we’d be happy to talk you through the process.
